Course Description
Sustainability is an active, hands-on, project-based course comprised of middle school students (grades 6-8). Daily duties include but are not limited to: recycling pickup, compost handling and monitoring, school grounds improvements, greenhouse operations, etc. In addition to daily duties, students will educate K-12 students about composting and recycling as well as explore topics such as: land stewardship, environmental issues, alternative energy, climate change, sustainable technologies, health and nutrition, uprecyling, etc. Grading/Assessment Grading breakdown 50% Daily participation/attitude/preparedness/tardiness grade 25% Project – one project per marking period. Projects are completed outside of the class and presented to peers. 25% Weekly article summary/reflection Some students have sustainability everyday while others have it only 1 day a week. EVERY student is responsible for one article summary/reflection a week. A new article is assigned every Friday and due the following Friday by the beginning of class. NO late article reflections will be accepted. Every student is responsible for their own project. This course is pass/fail. See rubrics below for assessment details.
